Special Olympics 2009 - 2010 (4.20.2010)

Special Olympics is founded on the belief that people with intellectual disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy, and benefit from participation in individual and team sports, adapted as necessary to meet the need of those with special mental and physical limitations." To help support the individual and team athletes, the Social Responsibility Committee of Insurance Trust, along with Maine credit union employees, directors and members, participates in numerous fundraisers throughout the year that benefit Special Olympics-Maine. In addition to monetary support, volunteers donate their time at Special Olympics events, including the annual Winter and Summer Games. At the annual meeting of Insurance Trust on April 16, 2010, the Social Responsibility Committee presented Phil Geelhoed of Special Olympics-Maine with a check for $49,000, which was raised by the Maine credit union community over the last nine months. Listed below is a breakdown by credit union of the 2009-2010 contributions.
